HVAC Mechanic

Department: BUILDING STEWARDSHIP

The Presidio Trust is seeking a HVAC Mechanic who will support the Building Stewardship Department. The Presidio Trust is an innovative federal agency that stewards and shares the history, beauty, and wonder of the Presidio for everyone to enjoy forever. Reporting to the Trade Supervisor, the HVAC Mechanic will plan, repair, install, inspect, test, adjust, and balance heating, cooling, and ventilating systems in residential and commercial buildings in a clean, safe, compliant and environmentally conscientious manner.

This is a full-time position with benefits and a starting at $ 45.87 per hour, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This position is included in a bargaining unit, specifically the Laborer’s International Union of North America, Local 792, United Public Employees of California. Responsibilities

  • Installs, Troubleshoots, Repairs and maintains general HVAC systems and their components to ensure cost effective operation with minimal down time.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC systems and associated computer automation controls.
  • Monitors and maintains HVAC control, automation and associated systems in Trust buildings.
  • Installs all HVAC and energy management automation.
  • Identifies and repairs HVAC system and control problems in coordination with customer’s needs.
  • Maintains records, including disposal of hazardous materials and treatment chemicals and work orders.
  • Assist in the review of plans and specifications for new systems and/or controls.
  • Cleans equipment, shop area, and work site.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Study system blueprints, specifications, and performance data to determine configuration and purpose of system components such as motors, pumps, fans, switches, ducts, or pipes.
  • Inspect systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications and to detect malfunctions in system component parts and identify system malfunctions with users to isolate problems.
  • Adjust system controls settings recommended by vendor to prepare to perform tests.
  • Test performance of air and hydronic systems to isolate problems and determine where adjustments are necessary.
  • Discuss system operation with users to verify that malfunctions have been corrected.
  • Responds as appropriate to requests, questions, comments and concerns from the public, residents, tenants, and Presidio staff using good customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Five (5) years' directly related work experience in the HVAC trade
  • Knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and installation techniques of the HVAC trade.
  • Valid CA Driver License.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers or customers.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment and associated components.
  • Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of HVAC equipment and control systems.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and repairing all types of HVAC systems, equipment, and elements.
  • Ability to analyze building heating and air-conditioning requirements and recommend systems or modifications.
  • Skilled in the use of test equipment common to trade.
  • Ability to use computer-based monitoring and control devices for maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of various testing equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools common to trade.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to complete trainings to stay current with the trade.

Background Check
This position is subject to an employment background check which shall consist of a review of applicable county, state and Federal criminal and civil records, state bankruptcy indexes, driver’s license, education, and employment history.
